Jaguar has taken another major step into its electric future with the unveiling of the Type 01, a four-door electric coupe that follows the design direction first previewed by the Type 00 concept. Positioned as a flagship performance model, the Type 01 combines a large battery, high-output electric powertrain and an unconventional cabin designed around large digital displays.

In India, prices for the Jaguar Type 01 start at Rs. 2.2 crore for the 1030PS variant, while the Design Vision version is priced at Rs. 2.45 crore. The model is aimed at buyers looking for an electric luxury car that places as much emphasis on design and technology as it does on outright performance.

Jaguar describes the Type 01 as its fastest and most dynamic model yet. Its specifications certainly support that claim, with more than 1,000bhp, 1,365Nm of torque and a claimed driving range of up to 720km.

Price

The Jaguar Type 01 is available in two variants in India.

The Type 01 1030PS is priced at Rs. 2.2 crore, while the Design Vision variant costs Rs. 2.45 crore.

At this price point, the Type 01 enters an exclusive part of India’s luxury car market. Its closest alternatives will include high-performance electric models from established luxury manufacturers, although Jaguar’s new design direction gives the Type 01 a very different identity.

The pricing also reflects the car’s positioning as more than a conventional electric luxury sedan. Jaguar is using the Type 01 to establish a new image for the brand as it moves toward an all-electric portfolio.

Design

The Type 01’s exterior design follows the dramatic styling language introduced by the Type 00 concept.

Its four-door coupe silhouette is likely to divide opinion. The body has a long, low profile, while the overall design avoids many of the traditional styling cues associated with Jaguar’s previous generation of cars.

The model gets a full-LED lighting setup, adding to its modern appearance.

Large 23-inch wheels are another prominent feature. Buyers can choose between a single-tone alloy design and two dual-tone aero wheel options.

The proportions and detailing are deliberately unconventional, reflecting Jaguar’s attempt to establish a completely new visual identity.

Rather than evolving the familiar design of its older models, the Type 01 represents a more substantial departure.

Cabin

The cabin continues the unconventional approach seen on the exterior.

One of the most noticeable features is the large 24-inch display that stretches from the instrument cluster area toward the centre of the dashboard.

Instead of having separate screens for the driver and infotainment system, Jaguar has integrated the display into a single large unit.

The system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, giving occupants access to familiar smartphone connectivity without requiring a physical cable.

There is also a seven-inch tablet positioned on the centre console. Jaguar says this secondary screen provides front-row occupants with easily accessible controls.

The arrangement is considerably different from the conventional dashboard layouts found in most luxury cars.

Displays

Technology is a central part of the Type 01’s interior.

The 24-inch primary display dominates the dashboard, while the smaller seven-inch screen on the centre console provides additional controls.

Another unusual feature is the panoramic soundbar running across the dashboard. It also incorporates a rear-view display, while the conventional inside rear-view mirror has been replaced by the digital arrangement.

This approach gives the cabin a more futuristic appearance, although buyers accustomed to conventional controls may require some time to become familiar with it.

The emphasis on screens is consistent with Jaguar’s broader attempt to position its new-generation vehicles as technology-focused luxury products.

Battery

Powering the Type 01 is a 118kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack.

The battery operates on an 850V electrical architecture, which enables the car to support high-speed charging.

Jaguar claims a range of up to 720km on a full charge. Actual driving range can vary depending on factors such as driving style, speed, temperature, road conditions and the use of climate control.

For a large performance-oriented electric coupe, a claimed range of 720km places the Type 01 among the longer-range EVs in its segment.

The large battery also gives the car the energy reserve required to support its high-performance electric motor.

Performance

The Jaguar Type 01 is powered by an electric motor producing 1,014.38bhp and 1,365Nm of torque.

That output gives the car performance figures that place it firmly in the high-performance category.

Jaguar claims a 0-100kmph acceleration time of just 3.2 seconds.

The acceleration does not stop there. The Type 01 can reportedly accelerate from 100kmph to 180kmph in four seconds.

The combination of instant electric torque and more than 1,000bhp makes the Type 01 considerably different from traditional Jaguar grand tourers powered by petrol engines.

The electric powertrain also allows the car to deliver its maximum torque rapidly, providing strong acceleration without the gear changes associated with a conventional combustion engine.

Charging

The 850V architecture is particularly important for charging performance.

Jaguar says the Type 01 can add 321km of range in just 13 minutes when connected to a 350kW DC fast charger.

Charging speeds can vary depending on the charger, battery temperature, state of charge and local charging infrastructure. The stated figure should therefore be viewed as a manufacturer claim under suitable conditions.

Nevertheless, the ability to add more than 300km of claimed range during a short charging stop could make long-distance travel more convenient for Type 01 owners.

High-speed charging is becoming increasingly important in the luxury EV market as manufacturers attempt to reduce the time owners spend waiting at charging stations.

Practicality

Despite its dramatic styling and performance focus, the Type 01 offers some practical features.

Jaguar lists a combined storage capacity of 450 litres.

The car also gets a powered tailgate, making access to the luggage area easier.

The four-door configuration should make it more practical than a traditional two-door sports coupe, although the low roofline and coupe-inspired body could affect rear-seat access and headroom.

The panoramic glass roof adds to the sense of space inside the cabin. It also features adjustable opacity, allowing occupants to alter the amount of light entering the interior.

These features show that Jaguar is attempting to balance the Type 01’s design and performance ambitions with the everyday requirements expected of a luxury vehicle.

Technology

The Type 01’s technology package is central to its identity.

The large panoramic display, secondary tablet, digital rear-view system and adjustable-opacity glass roof give the interior a distinctly modern character.

Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay also ensure that the vehicle is compatible with widely used smartphone ecosystems.

The digital rear-view setup is particularly notable because Jaguar has chosen to move away from the conventional interior rear-view mirror.

For buyers, the learning curve could be significant. Many controls that drivers traditionally operate through physical switches or separate displays are integrated into a more digital environment.

Whether this approach improves usability will ultimately depend on how intuitively Jaguar has designed the software and controls.

Positioning

The Type 01 represents a significant change in Jaguar’s product strategy.

The brand has been moving toward an all-electric future, with the Type 00 concept providing an early indication of its new design language.

The Type 01 takes that concept into production in the form of a four-door electric coupe.

Its specifications make the vehicle a performance flagship, while the price places it firmly within the premium luxury segment.

The combination of a 118kWh battery, 720km claimed range and more than 1,000bhp gives Jaguar a strong technical specification to support its new direction.

However, the Type 01 will also need to convince buyers that its unconventional styling and screen-heavy cabin offer genuine advantages rather than simply looking different.

Verdict

The Jaguar Type 01 is not a conventional replacement for an existing luxury sedan or coupe. It represents a new chapter for the British manufacturer, combining an electric powertrain with a highly distinctive design and technology-focused interior.

With prices starting at Rs. 2.2 crore, the Type 01 targets a relatively small but premium section of India’s luxury car market. Its 1,014bhp motor, 1,365Nm of torque, 118kWh battery and claimed 720km range make the specifications impressive on paper.

The car’s most interesting aspect, however, may be its approach to design. From the 23-inch wheels and four-door coupe silhouette to the 24-inch dashboard display and digital rear-view system, Jaguar has moved away from convention. Whether that bold approach appeals to luxury buyers will be just as important as the car’s performance and range.

With a claimed 0-100kmph time of 3.2 seconds and the ability to add 321km of range in 13 minutes using a 350kW charger, the Type 01 combines performance with long-distance EV capability. For Jaguar, it is not simply another electric car – it is an attempt to redefine what the brand’s next generation of luxury vehicles should look and feel like.
