iQOO is preparing to launch the iQOO 16 and iQOO Pad Ultra in China later this month, with the company now confirming key details about their gaming-focused hardware and software. Both devices will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 SoC and come with iQOO’s new Q4 gaming chip. The company is also introducing technologies aimed at improving frame rates, touch response and overall gaming performance.
The iQOO Gaming Headset is also expected to make its debut alongside the smartphone and tablet at the upcoming event.
Launch
iQOO has confirmed that the iQOO 16 and iQOO Pad Ultra will launch in China on September 29 at 7pm local time, which is 4:30pm IST. The launch event will also introduce the iQOO Gaming Headset.
Ahead of the event, iQOO has revealed several gaming-related details. The company is positioning the new devices around high-refresh-rate gaming, faster touch response and enhanced graphics processing.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 will serve as the main processor, while iQOO’s self-developed Q4 gaming chip will handle additional gaming tasks.
Gaming
The Q4 gaming chip is one of three gaming technologies developed by iQOO for the upcoming devices. According to the company, it can support 2K gaming at up to 165fps through super-resolution and super-frame processing.
The chip also supports full-scene ray tracing and an 8K gaming camera. These features are designed to improve both visual quality and frame-rate performance in demanding games.
Think of the Q4 chip as a specialist working alongside the main processor. Instead of relying entirely on the Snapdragon platform, iQOO is using additional hardware to handle selected gaming workloads.
Control
The second major technology is Q-flex control, which is designed to reduce touch latency at the game-engine level.
iQOO says the technology recorded a latency mean square error of 0.72 in FPS games. Lower and more consistent touch latency can be particularly important in competitive games, where the difference between tapping the screen and seeing the corresponding action can affect gameplay.
The company has not yet detailed how the technology will work across different games, so its real-world benefits will depend partly on software optimisation.
Engine
The third technology is called the Monster Super Core engine. iQOO says it uses a new platform and scheduling system to help maintain high frame rates during gaming sessions.
Maintaining consistent performance can be just as important as reaching a high peak frame rate. A game that briefly reaches 165fps but frequently drops frames may feel less responsive than one that maintains a stable frame rate.
The new scheduling system appears designed to address this aspect of gaming performance.
Display
The iQOO 16 will feature a Samsung M16 AMOLED display with Samsung’s LEAD 2.0 technology.
iQOO says the panel can reach up to 2,800 nits of global peak brightness and 10,000 nits of local peak brightness. The screen will also support up to 3,300Hz PWM dimming and carry TÜV Rheinland eye-protection certifications.
These specifications position the display as one of the key features of the phone. The high brightness figures should help with outdoor visibility, while the high-frequency PWM dimming is intended to provide a more comfortable viewing experience for some users.
Cameras
The iQOO 16 will also receive a redesigned triple rear camera setup. The module reportedly uses a connected design inspired by a robotic arm.
While iQOO has confirmed the new visual direction, detailed camera specifications and information about individual sensors are expected to be revealed around the launch.
For a gaming-focused smartphone, the camera system may not be the headline feature, but the redesigned module gives the device a distinct identity compared with previous models.
Colours
The Chinese version of the iQOO 16 will reportedly be available in three finishes: Chasing Light, Legendary and Racing Track.
Chasing Light is expected to use a laser holographic finish with red and blue hues over a silver base. The Legendary version will feature a white finish with magnetron sputtering electroplating.
Racing Track is expected to draw inspiration from the purple paint associated with Formula 1 cars, giving the phone a more performance-oriented appearance.
