Samsung has expanded its affordable smartphone lineup in India with the launch of the Galaxy A08. The new handset combines a 6,000mAh battery with a 50-megapixel primary rear camera, a 90Hz display and MediaTek’s Helio G99+ chipset.
The Galaxy A08 also stands out for its promised software support. Samsung says the phone will receive six generations of operating system upgrades and six years of security updates. It ships with Android 16-based One UI 9 and includes several AI-focused features, including Circle to Search, Gemini and Perplexity.
Price
The Samsung Galaxy A08 is priced at Rs. 18,499 in India for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage configuration.
The phone is available in three colour options: Dark Blue, Green and Silver.
Samsung is selling the handset through Samsung Exclusive Stores, partner retailers, Samsung’s official website and other online platforms.
The company is also offering zero-interest EMI options for eligible customers. These include plans of up to six months through eligible bank cards and up to nine months through participating NBFC partners.
Display
The Galaxy A08 features a 6.7-inch HD+ PLS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate.
The higher refresh rate is designed to make supported animations, scrolling and transitions appear smoother than on a conventional 60Hz panel. The display uses Samsung’s PLS LCD technology rather than an AMOLED panel.
For an affordable smartphone, the combination of a large 6.7-inch screen and 90Hz refresh rate gives the device a focus on everyday media consumption and general use.
The phone also has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front, providing an additional layer of protection against everyday scratches and minor impacts.
Performance
Powering the Galaxy A08 is MediaTek’s Helio G99+ chipset. It is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage in the Indian configuration.
The phone also supports expandable storage through a microSD card, with support for cards of up to 2TB.
This gives users additional space for photos, videos, applications and other files without relying entirely on the built-in 64GB storage.
The Galaxy A08 runs Android 16 with Samsung’s One UI 9 interface. Samsung’s longer software support commitment is one of the phone’s notable features, with six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates promised.
Cameras
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A08 with a dual-camera system on the rear.
The primary camera uses a 50-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. It is accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.
The depth camera is intended to assist with portrait photography and background separation.
For selfies and video calls, the phone has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture.
The camera setup therefore focuses on a high-resolution primary sensor rather than offering a larger selection of dedicated rear cameras.
Battery
The Galaxy A08 has a 6,000mAh battery, which is one of the larger battery capacities available in this segment.
Samsung says the phone supports 25W fast charging. Charging speed can vary depending on the charger, cable, usage and other conditions.
The combination of the large battery and relatively modest display resolution is aimed at providing extended everyday usage between charges.
For users who spend significant time watching videos, browsing social media or using their phones away from a charger, battery capacity is likely to be one of the key specifications to consider.
Software
The Galaxy A08 ships with Android 16-based One UI 9 and includes several Samsung software features.
Circle to Search 3.0 is supported, allowing users to search for information about content displayed on the screen. The phone also supports Google’s Gemini and the Perplexity AI service.
Samsung says users can access Gemini and Perplexity using voice commands or by long-pressing the power button.
The handset also supports Quick Share for transferring compatible files and content, while Modes and Routines provides automated settings based on user-defined conditions.
These features place the Galaxy A08 within Samsung’s broader Galaxy software ecosystem despite its position in the affordable segment.
Security
Samsung Knox is included on the Galaxy A08 to provide security features for sensitive information.
The system is designed to help protect data such as passwords and biometric information. The phone also benefits from Samsung’s six-year security update commitment.
Long-term security support can be particularly relevant for buyers who intend to keep an affordable smartphone for several years rather than replacing it frequently.
Design
The Galaxy A08 measures 8mm in thickness and has a relatively straightforward design focused on keeping the hardware practical.
Its IP64 rating provides protection against dust and water splashes, although it does not make the phone waterproof or suitable for submersion.
The three colour choices give buyers a selection between Dark Blue, Green and Silver finishes.
Combined with the large display and 6,000mAh battery, the specifications position the Galaxy A08 as a device aimed at users who prioritize screen size, battery capacity, basic photography and long-term software support.
Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy A08 brings several notable specifications to Samsung’s affordable smartphone lineup in India. Its 6,000mAh battery, 90Hz display, 50-megapixel main camera and MediaTek Helio G99+ chipset form the core hardware package.
The longer software support is another important part of the phone’s specification, with six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
At Rs. 18,499 for the 4GB + 64GB configuration, the Galaxy A08 enters a competitive segment where display quality, performance, cameras, battery life and software support all matter. Buyers will need to weigh those specifications against their individual priorities when considering the handset.
