Google has started rolling out its September 2026 Pixel Drop, bringing several new features to compatible Pixel phones. The update includes Harry Potter-themed customisation options, expanded Pixel VIP widgets, broader scam detection, and an update to Google’s Digital Wellbeing tools.

Audiobooks
One of the more unusual additions in the September Pixel Drop is the Harry Potter Audiobook Pack. It is linked to the launch of the Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions on Audible.
Pixel users can customise parts of their phone with Harry Potter-themed wallpapers, icons, and sounds. The feature is available on Pixel 6 and newer devices in supported markets.
Eligible users can also receive a two-month Audible free trial. Google says the promotion is available until January 14, 2027, in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, Japan, and Australia.
VIP Widgets
Google is also giving Pixel VIPs more control over how they interact with important contacts. The latest update introduces a redesigned and expanded widget experience.
The new home screen widget allows users to call a VIP contact with a single tap. A new floating menu at the bottom also makes it possible to switch between VIP contacts without leaving the home screen.
The changes are aimed at making frequently used contacts easier to reach without opening the Phone or Contacts app.
Scam Detection
Scam protection is another major part of the September update. Google’s Scam Detection feature is expanding to Gboard across supported messaging apps.
When users begin typing a response to a message that appears suspicious, a “Likely scam” warning chip can appear above the keyboard. This gives users an additional warning before they continue interacting with a potentially fraudulent message.
The Gboard scam warning is currently limited to users in the US, according to Google.
Global Support
Google is also expanding its existing Scam Detection system for incoming notifications. The feature is now reaching nine additional countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, and the UK.
Language support is expanding as well. Google has added six languages, including Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Spanish.
The broader rollout means more Pixel users can receive warnings when Google’s systems identify potentially suspicious messages.
Digital Wellbeing
The September Pixel Drop also expands Google’s Pause Point feature to Pixel 6 and newer phones.
Pause Point was introduced with the Pixel 11 generation and is designed to help users become more deliberate about opening distracting apps. Rather than immediately launching an app, the feature introduces a short pause before access.
