Kia is preparing to expand its hybrid lineup in India with the Carnival Hybrid, following the announcement of the Sorento Hybrid for the market. The new powertrain is expected to bring a petrol-electric option to Kia’s premium MPV lineup, giving buyers an alternative to the existing diesel-powered Carnival.
The Carnival Hybrid is expected to arrive later this year and could also receive additional equipment as part of an update to the model. Kia’s move is part of a broader plan to introduce more hybrid powertrains across its Indian portfolio.
Powertrain
The Kia Carnival Hybrid will use a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor.
The petrol engine is expected to produce 178bhp and 265Nm of torque. The electric motor adds 72bhp and 304Nm, giving the hybrid system a combined setup designed to provide stronger efficiency and low-speed response.
The powertrain will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This combination will distinguish the hybrid from the current Carnival, which is powered by a diesel engine.
While the hybrid system adds an electric motor to the powertrain, its main purpose is to improve efficiency and provide additional assistance to the petrol engine rather than turn the Carnival into a fully electric vehicle.
Features
Kia is also expected to introduce additional features with the hybrid version.
The Carnival could arrive as part of a model-year update, potentially bringing equipment and technology upgrades alongside the new powertrain. Kia has not detailed all of the changes expected for the Indian-spec model, so the final equipment list will become clearer closer to its launch.

The existing diesel-powered Kia Carnival is priced at around Rs. 59.64 lakh, ex-showroom.
The hybrid version is expected to be positioned at up to around Rs. 56 lakh, ex-showroom, based on current expectations. If that pricing materialises, the hybrid could offer a lower entry price than the existing diesel model.
However, the final price will depend on the equipment offered, localisation, taxes and Kia’s positioning for the new powertrain.
Launch
The Carnival Hybrid is expected to be launched in India later this year.
