The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is expected to receive a facelift in 2027, and the recently updated Baleno gives an early indication of what could change. The Baleno facelift has introduced revised styling, new features and Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine.
These updates are significant because the Baleno, Fronx, Toyota Taisor and Toyota Glanza share several underlying components and are closely related products. As a result, some of the Baleno’s latest equipment and mechanical changes could eventually make their way to the Fronx facelift.
ADAS
One of the most notable additions to the updated Baleno is Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The technology is currently available on the top-spec Alpha (O) variant.
The system adds several driver-assistance functions, although the Baleno does not get features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert.
The Fronx facelift could receive a similar setup. Maruti Suzuki may reserve the full ADAS package for a new top-spec Alpha (O) variant, following the approach used on the Baleno.
This would give the Fronx additional safety and convenience technology while keeping the equipment concentrated on higher variants.
Engine
The powertrain could be another major area of change for the Fronx facelift.
The existing 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-Series petrol engine is expected to make way for Maruti Suzuki’s newer 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine. In petrol form, the Z-Series unit produces 81.8bhp and 112Nm.
The engine is also available with a CNG setup, where it produces 67bhp and 101Nm. The claimed fuel-efficiency figures for the Baleno are 23.80kmpl with the manual transmission, 24.77kmpl with the AMT and 33.61km/kg with the CNG manual transmission.
If these specifications are carried over to the Fronx, the facelift could benefit from a newer powertrain with an emphasis on efficiency.
CNG
The Fronx could also gain a CNG-AMT combination as part of its powertrain update.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce a CNG-AMT option in the updated Baleno range at a later stage. If the technology is expanded across related models, the Fronx could eventually receive the same combination.
A CNG-AMT setup would provide an alternative for buyers who want the running-cost advantages associated with CNG without operating a conventional manual transmission.
The availability of the combination, however, will depend on Maruti Suzuki’s final variant and powertrain strategy for the facelifted Fronx.
Features
The updated Baleno also brings several new equipment additions that could influence the Fronx facelift’s feature list.
Among the notable additions are ventilated front seats, a tyre pressure monitoring system and Level 2 ADAS. These features could help the Fronx remain competitive as buyers increasingly expect more safety and convenience equipment from premium hatchbacks and compact SUVs.
The exact variant-wise distribution is not yet confirmed. Maruti Suzuki could limit some of these features to higher-spec versions rather than making them standard across the range.
Safety
Safety could receive greater attention with the next-generation updates across Maruti Suzuki’s model range.
The updated Baleno is expected to target a five-star Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) rating. The Fronx could also be developed with a stronger focus on crash protection, although an eventual rating would depend on the vehicle’s tested specification and the outcome of the official assessment.
The same safety improvements could potentially benefit the Toyota Taisor and Toyota Glanza, which are based on closely related Maruti Suzuki products.
Design
The Fronx facelift is also expected to receive exterior and interior revisions, although detailed design changes have not been confirmed.
The Baleno facelift provides some clues about Maruti Suzuki’s current design direction. The Fronx could receive revised bumpers, lighting elements, grille detailing and alloy wheels, along with updates to the cabin.
Because the Fronx has a more crossover-oriented design than the Baleno, Maruti Suzuki is likely to retain its distinctive proportions and styling identity rather than simply transferring the hatchback’s design.
Timeline
The Fronx facelift is expected to arrive in 2027. Before the launch, more information should emerge regarding its engine options, equipment, design changes and variant structure.
The Baleno facelift is therefore an important reference point for prospective Fronx buyers. Its new Z-Series engine, ADAS technology, additional equipment and potential CNG-AMT combination indicate the type of upgrades that could appear elsewhere in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup.
For now, these remain expectations rather than confirmed specifications for the Fronx facelift. Maruti Suzuki is yet to officially announce the complete details of the updated model.
