Philips is preparing to enter India’s 5G smartphone market with a new handset, and its launch date has now been confirmed. Although the company has not yet revealed the phone’s official name, an Amazon microsite has provided details about its design, display, cameras, memory configurations and durability rating.
The upcoming smartphone is scheduled to launch in India on September 2. It will be available in three colour options and is expected to target buyers looking for a combination of 5G connectivity, a high-refresh-rate display and everyday camera features.
Launch
An Amazon landing page has confirmed that the new Philips 5G smartphone will launch in India on September 2.
Philips has not officially announced the handset’s final commercial name yet. However, an earlier Amazon listing reportedly referenced the Philips S7221 name, suggesting this could be the model that is preparing to enter the Indian market.
The company already has a presence in India across categories such as home appliances and medical technology. Its arrival in the smartphone segment would give consumers another brand to consider in the increasingly competitive 5G market.
Design
The Philips smartphone will have a modern design with rounded corners and a hole-punch cutout for the front camera.
Images shared through the Amazon listing show the handset with a raised rectangular camera module positioned toward the upper-left section of the rear panel. The module houses two vertically arranged camera lenses along with an LED flash.
Philips branding is placed toward the lower portion of the back panel. The phone will be sold in black, grey and white colour options, although the official names of these shades have not been disclosed.
The front display appears to have relatively slim bezels around the screen, giving the handset a contemporary appearance.
Display
One of the confirmed specifications is a 120Hz refresh rate display.
A higher refresh rate can make supported animations, scrolling and compatible games appear smoother than on conventional 60Hz panels. The exact display size, resolution and panel technology have not yet been fully detailed in the information currently available.
The 120Hz specification nevertheless gives the upcoming Philips phone a feature that is increasingly common across mid-range and budget 5G smartphones.
Camera
The rear camera system will include a 64-megapixel AI-powered primary camera.
Philips has also confirmed a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. The rear module shown in the promotional material contains two lenses, although the company has not yet provided complete details about the secondary camera.
The AI branding suggests that software-based image processing will be part of the camera experience. More information about camera modes and video recording capabilities may be revealed when the phone officially launches.
Memory
The new Philips 5G smartphone will be offered with two RAM configurations.
Buyers will be able to choose between 6GB and 8GB of RAM, while storage options will include 128GB and 256GB.
This gives consumers two different combinations depending on their storage and multitasking requirements. The higher-storage variant could be more suitable for users who regularly keep photos, videos, applications and other files on their device.
The company has not yet revealed the processor powering the phone or confirmed whether storage expansion will be supported.
Features
The upcoming Philips handset will feature dual stereo speakers with Ultra Max audio. Stereo speakers can provide a more spacious sound experience when watching videos, playing games or listening to music directly from the phone.
The device will also have an IP64 rating. This provides protection against dust and resistance to water splashes, although it does not mean the phone is designed for immersion in water.
The combination of stereo speakers, a 120Hz display and an IP64-rated build adds several practical features beyond the phone’s 5G connectivity.
Name
The biggest detail still missing is the phone’s official name.
Philips has confirmed the launch date and several specifications through its Amazon presence, but the final product name has not been formally announced. An earlier Amazon listing reportedly mentioned the Philips S7221 name, but this should not be treated as final until Philips confirms it.
More information about the processor, battery, charging support, display specifications, pricing and availability is also expected around the launch.
With the September 2 launch date confirmed, Philips is set to reveal more about its first upcoming 5G smartphone for India. The handset will bring a 120Hz display, 64-megapixel rear camera, 16-megapixel selfie camera, stereo speakers and IP64 protection, along with 6GB or 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. The phone’s official name and pricing remain key details ahead of the launch.
