Skoda’s Fastest SUV Yet Sells Out in Minutes After India Launch at Rs. 66.99 Lakh

Skoda India has launched the Kodiaq RS at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 66.99 lakh, bringing the performance-oriented RS badge to an SUV body style in the Indian market for the first time. The launch has been met with strong demand, with all 50 units allocated for the country selling out within six minutes of bookings opening on June 22.

The Kodiaq RS is offered as a limited-run completely built unit import and sits at the top of the Kodiaq range, above the Laurin & Klement variant.

Positioning

The RS version represents Skoda’s most powerful SUV offering in India. With only 50 units available and no confirmation of a second batch, the model is positioned as a niche, enthusiast-focused product rather than a volume seller.

By introducing the RS badge on the Kodiaq, Skoda has expanded its performance sub-brand beyond sedans and hatchbacks in the Indian market.

Design

Visually, the Kodiaq RS retains the familiar shape of the standard SUV but adds several sport-focused details. These include a blacked-out grille, window surrounds and ORVMs. The blacked-out D-pillar gives the side profile a longer appearance.

The SUV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with a petal-style design and features red brake callipers. At the rear, the bumper has been revised slightly to accommodate dual exhaust tips, which are exclusive to the RS variant. All exterior badges, including the vRS emblem, are finished in black.

Interior

Inside, the Kodiaq RS gets a dark-themed cabin with red contrast stitching across seats and upholstery. The front sport seats offer electric adjustment, ventilation, heating and memory functions.

Key features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.24-inch digital instrument cluster, dual wireless charging pads, a frameless auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, and rear sunblinds for second-row passengers.

The SUV is configured as a seven-seater, although the third row is best suited for short trips or occasional use.

Engine

Powering the Kodiaq RS is a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine tuned to deliver 261bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.

Skoda claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 231kmph, making it the quickest Kodiaq sold in India to date.

Pricing

At Rs. 66.99 lakh, ex-showroom, the Kodiaq RS carries a substantial premium over the standard Kodiaq L&K variant. Given its limited availability and sold-out status, it is currently more of a showcase for Skoda’s performance capabilities than a readily accessible option for buyers.

With no official word on additional units, the Kodiaq RS remains a rare offering in the Indian SUV market.
